Handwritten letter inquiring about the lack of response to letters that Pickens has sent previously and describing his very active social life as a bachelor, the women in the town, and his succesful avoiding of marriage before he returns home to Mississippi. He also writes, "The California fever has been quite high and good many of our old friends are gone. Thank God the fever did not over take me. I think there is some mines in Old Holmes [Mississippi] that suits me much better." Also includes typescript transcript of letter.
